Vergane Gloria

The sculptural installation ‘Vergane Gloria’ is the result of Slijkerman’s visual research into themes such as decay and sensory memories. In this process he has repeatedly sought the visualization of these themes. The various sculptures have been created by working in different materials and from different perspectives. In particular, Slijkerman used the negative spaces of existing objects such as toys and packaging, transforming existing shapes into new materials. The installation was previously on display at Slijkerman’s graduation exhibition, but will reshape itself in Ex-Boot to the new spatial context, lending it new meaning.

Masque

Sire Mane

In Sire Mane’s new work "Masque," the viewer is placed within a field of tension between honesty, concealment, and adaptation. The installation consists of two large masks behind which personal and vulnerable stories are hidden. Behind the masks, you hear two individuals speaking in their own languages—French and Wolof (a local language from Senegal) about topics they find difficult to discuss in their daily lives. The emotions behind these masks are clearly audible, yet the words remain largely unclear to most visitors. The masks draw the viewer in, but remain impenetrable. They do not reveal their inner world. In this way, a sense of distance and misunderstanding emerges, connected to differences in language, identity, and culture.

The sand path museum

I cherish both my present and my past. Besides a space for high-profile art, one of my rooms also houses the Zandpad Museum. Here, I'll tell you about my illustrious past and introduce you to people who know me well—inside or out. Sit on my stool, gaze out the window, and listen to the many stories surrounding my life.

Short documentary 'The Sand Path'

The Zandpad Museum is screening a short documentary about the history of the Zandpad. You'll also find numerous audio clips of conversations with various people involved, including a former sex worker and former mayor Aleid Wolfsen.

This Zandpad documentary was made by Sylvie Kamphuis & Jaap Pronk (director), Bram Engelaar (camera), Doenja Abel (production), Twan Bracco Gartner (music), and Bald Beeld (editing). Thanks to the interviewees: Aleid Wolfsen (former mayor of the Municipality of Utrecht), Brenda Oude Breuil (criminologist at Utrecht University), Jannie Teunissen (De Tussenvoorziening), the former sex worker, and the former client of Zandpad. The documentary was made possible in part by the Municipality of Utrecht, KF Heinfonds, Mondriaanfonds, and RTV Utrecht.
