In ‘The dissection of a morning’ Hilke Walraven (1994) brings to life one of her daydreams within the
walls of my EXboot and offers us a detailed account of the morning of the 39th. The work of
Walraven is created as a world of its own, made up of objects, spaces, interactions, coincidences and
thoughts that together make their own visual language. The individua fragments are expressed in
different media and together tell a visual story in the form of an art installation.

The 39th
After the waking-up it was the 39th
3/9 of the 39th and 1/5 of the day
The clock anounced it to me.
A moment later this announcement changed: ‘it is now 1/5 of daypart 1.5’
And basically I was fine with that
The morning passed by quietly.
The eggs in place.
Tomato slices in order.

But where are the papers?
– ‘Sorted’
I walked tot he sorting and soon there wasn’t a trace of doubt left.

Today it was the 39th

Een Ode Aan

Babs Groote Schaarsberg

My collection consists of sculptures centered around the body, paying homage to the Bottermarkt in my village Raalte and the Salland traditional attire. It is not a repetition of the original, but a personal interpretation meant to astonish and engage people, so these traditions won’t disappear. The title Een Ode Aan gives me freedom in my creative process and invites the audience to wonder and be intrigued, just as I feel when I walk through the Bottermarkt.

The sand path museum

I cherish both my present and my past. Besides a space for high-profile art, one of my rooms also houses the Zandpad Museum. Here, I'll tell you about my illustrious past and introduce you to people who know me well—inside or out. Sit on my stool, gaze out the window, and listen to the many stories surrounding my life.

Short documentary 'The Sand Path'

The Zandpad Museum is screening a short documentary about the history of the Zandpad. You'll also find numerous audio clips of conversations with various people involved, including a former sex worker and former mayor Aleid Wolfsen.

This Zandpad documentary was made by Sylvie Kamphuis & Jaap Pronk (director), Bram Engelaar (camera), Doenja Abel (production), Twan Bracco Gartner (music), and Bald Beeld (editing). Thanks to the interviewees: Aleid Wolfsen (former mayor of the Municipality of Utrecht), Brenda Oude Breuil (criminologist at Utrecht University), Jannie Teunissen (De Tussenvoorziening), the former sex worker, and the former client of Zandpad. The documentary was made possible in part by the Municipality of Utrecht, KF Heinfonds, Mondriaanfonds, and RTV Utrecht.
