Marloes Roeper is intrigued by what we really see looking at a painting. When she observes het daily environment she is struck bu objects, shapes and compositions that trigger a need for painting them.

This desire isn’t triggered by beauty, but by her fascination for the possibility to create meaning with just a few brushstrokes.

Roepers paintings seem to show relatable subjects, windows, a soccer field, electricity poles, pealed to their essence; for her the challenge is to achieve figuration with the most effective means. She wonders what a viewer needs to evoke an image that goes beyond frame, canvas and paint.

Ken Stoové

This research portrays the inner quest of Ken Stoové, who feels a deep longing to travel to Suriname, the country where his grandfather and father took their first breaths. Although he has never been there himself, Suriname lives vividly in his imagination, shaped by stories, written accounts, and dreams. For Ken, the country symbolizes ancestry, identity, and a possible homecoming, but also uncertainty. He wonders whether he will find warmth and belonging there, or whether he will instead feel like an outsider, standing at the edge of his own origins.

The sand path museum

I cherish both my present and my past. Besides a space for high-profile art, one of my rooms also houses the Zandpad Museum. Here, I'll tell you about my illustrious past and introduce you to people who know me well—inside or out. Sit on my stool, gaze out the window, and listen to the many stories surrounding my life.

Short documentary 'The Sand Path'

The Zandpad Museum is screening a short documentary about the history of the Zandpad. You'll also find numerous audio clips of conversations with various people involved, including a former sex worker and former mayor Aleid Wolfsen.

This Zandpad documentary was made by Sylvie Kamphuis & Jaap Pronk (director), Bram Engelaar (camera), Doenja Abel (production), Twan Bracco Gartner (music), and Bald Beeld (editing). Thanks to the interviewees: Aleid Wolfsen (former mayor of the Municipality of Utrecht), Brenda Oude Breuil (criminologist at Utrecht University), Jannie Teunissen (De Tussenvoorziening), the former sex worker, and the former client of Zandpad. The documentary was made possible in part by the Municipality of Utrecht, KF Heinfonds, Mondriaanfonds, and RTV Utrecht.
