Entropy No. 1 consists of two sculptures that seem to have a life of their own. Each work has a metal skeleton and a latex skin, creating a tension between the technical and the almost organic. Through a mechanism, air is slowly blown in and out of the sculptures, giving them the subtle appearance of breathing.

The sculptures bear the traces of time and change. Over time, the latex skin will discolour, begin to wrinkle and gradually sag. Eventually, the material will no longer be able to retain the air, and the breathing will slowly come to a halt.

The work explores impermanence and the acceptance that nothing lasts forever. Entropy No. 1 invites us to reflect on the fragility of materials, objects and life itself.
