In ‘as a man i hate flowers’ Ischa Kempka reflects on today’s society and the way in which people present theirselves on the internet. Texts she reads online are a starting point to make (ceramic) sculptures, drawings or video works that form a protest against the big wor(l)d.

In a surrounding where a lot of different opinions exist about gender, masculinity / femininity and feminism, language plays a big part in resolving problems. But what if language is deliberately used to provoke and encourage discussions, anger and incomprehension, but nobody realized that?

the escalator is always rolling

Thomas L. Fontein

Every day the same game repeats itself, at the same time and place as yesterday, just with different players. Your body gets absorbed into the flow of the rush hour, while your mind is disconnected. As the train leaves the station, you take your seat in the midst of absent gazes. ‘the escalator is always rolling’ is an exploration of the mental numbness of repetition, predictability and the drag of going somewhere that doesn't fulfill you.
