Sasja Houba (2002) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who expresses herself through graphic design, artistic research, and ceramics. In her work, she explores the relationship between humans, culture, and nature while incorporating practical and recognizable elements to make these themes more accessible to the public. Through this approach, she aims to raise awareness of the small, often overlooked or underappreciated aspects of our immediate surroundings.
Through graphic design, she translates her findings into printed matter and publications, driven by a passion for riso and silkscreen print. Ceramics offer her a more dynamic and tangible way to explore these themes, serving as a tool to step out of her head and work intuitively.

How to Practice Paradise

Het werk ‘How to Practice Paradise’ van Sasja Houba is een project dat tuinen benadert als meer dan slechts een verlengstuk van het huis. Door kunst, geschiedenis en persoonlijke verhalen te combineren, onderzoekt dit werk hoe gewone tuinen kunnen veranderen in visies van het paradijs. Voor dit onderzoek bezocht Houba verschillende achtertuinen in en rondom Utrecht (waaronder Rijnsweerd, Sterrenwijk, Wilhelminapark en Zuilen), en interviewde ze tuineigenaren over de (symbolische) waarde van hun tuin. Daarnaast bestudeerde Houba afbeeldingen van het paradijs uit uiteenlopende tijden en culturen.
