In her work, Anna Reerds celebrates man’s craziness, ignorance, and sadness. By combining photography, scale models, film, animation and illustration, she plays with reality and thus creates a world that is very recognizable on the one hand and feels absurd on the other.
‘Soelaas’ is about snackbars, laundries and public toilets. Places like this – places that radiate human loneliness in a certain way – show us that humankind is not perfect. Not that this is a bad thing: it is part of being human. We don’t have to pretend that we always eat healthy, that we are never lonely, that we have mastered life. These places comfort us.
